He has Vasomotor (non-allergic) Rhinitis. Patients w/vasomotor rhinitis basically have very sensitive nasal linings and any irritants like smoke, dust, perfumes, hair sprays, cold air, temperature changes, and barometric pressure changes can aggravate symptoms. They have chronic nasal congestion and constant postnasal drip. most of these people ultimately end up w/chronic sinus problems.
And they are treating him to see if he has Cough Variant Asthma. Chronic cough may be the sole manifestation of asthma. It is the most common cause of chornic cough in children. Cough occurs day and night precipitated by excessive cold air, common cold or flu. If he responds to the meds, then they'll assume he has this. If the cough continues w/the meds, then they'll assume he does not have this.
We go back in a month.

so, can they do anything for it? meds of any kind to at least minimize the symptoms?
well, he is on benadryl and an OTC nasal decongestant. He was on albutoral liquid, but it wasn't making a difference. So, I called the peds, and he is now on a nebulizer which he HATES :( We go to the peds on Monday to discuss if the nebulizer is working. It if isn't, he could be put on yet something else. I really don't care what we try, so long as we find something that works!!!!
Holly, have you ever tried Singulaire for Jaden? That is what finally worked for Kyle. It's purpose is to shrink the swelling in the nasal passages and the bronchial area as well as stop that constant post nasal drip. We never noticed an adverse side affects. Now he is on allergy shots and is the healthiest he's ever been.
I haven't heard of it, but we have an appt tomorrow morning, and I will bring it up!
